Austin, Texas:
We had the opportunity to combine a couple things at once on a weekend trip. First and foremost, seeing Michelle Fling and her man Robert again, and then add to that the chance to finally see Willie Nelson in concert at the Rodeo! Sort of an unbeatable combination!
Unfortunately, I didn't seem to catch both Robert and Michelle together in a photo very often. That's alright, we'll do better next time.
The visit started out delayed, when American Airlines called at 4:30am to notify us the flight had cancelled and we were rebooked on a flight 4 hours later. Back to bed after e-mailing Michelle of the delayed arrival and pickup time. All went well after that. We visited their nice home, enjoyed a bit of a snack, then dinner at Texas Roadhouse, a chain that Willie is part owner in. Very good food, fresh bread, and quality meals at reasonable prices.
Afterward, off to the Rodeo and a bit of shopping, where I finally found a straw hat that fit, and we enjoyed a couple beers. Willie came on after the bull riding and they set up a slow rotating stage for him and the band.
I can honestly say Willie is worth the effort of flying to Texas to see. Granted, this is the most Progressive city in Texas, making the place more 'tolerable' than most of Texas. The city itself is very clean, lots of interesting restaurants, nightclubs and shops to explore.
